I did a fresh install to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11, it qualified for the free upgrade but the way I did it killed the Windows 10 license (clean standalone install). Unregistered Windows 11 has an annoying watermark on the bottom right of the screen. To try and get rid of the watermark I disabled a Windows service called Windows License Manager. The attempt to register this key was failing because Windows couldn't use that service. Once I started the service back up the key was accepted right away.
