Another year, another Gamescom… The ironic thing is that I am based in Germany and I still missed it. So if you, like me, weren’t able to make it there in person, then just check out everything that happened during this year’s Gamescom event through this article. It will probably be updated if anything crazy happens during the event as it’s just 20th August today.
As you already know, Gamescom is held in Cologne, Germany every year in August since 2009 and it attracts a massive crowd from all over the world, especially people based in Europe. And what a treat it is! Major reveals, big game announcements and very interesting updates in the gaming and tech world. This year was also marked with some insane surprises and crazy trailers (some we expected, some we totally didn’t) and it’s just Day 01 at the time of writing this article so there’s way more to see ahead in the next 4 days until Sunday the 24th of August.
The curtain has dropped and Day 1 delivered hard. Here’s your no-fluff rundown of what happened and what to expect in the days ahead.
Opening Night Live and Day 1 Highlights
Hosted by Geoff Keighley, Opening Night Live kicked off Gamescom 2025 with a two-hour blast of games news covering new titles, expansions, trailers, and even TV tie-ins. Here’s the standout news:
Call of Duty Black Ops 7
Activision revealed the first full gameplay of Black Ops 7. The campaign stars Milo Ventimiglia and Kiernan Shipka alternating between dreamy neon cityscapes, covert strongholds, and twisted mental realms. Plus new co-op PvE mode called Endgame. Launch is set for November 14. I still miss the old Black Ops tho. 1 and 2 were my favorite, 3 and 4 started to get worse and the rest were just.. Meh. I am excited for 7 but let’s see. No one can top the “MASONNNNN!!! WHAT DO THE NUMBERS MEAN?!?!?!” and the AWESOME zombie modes! BO3 had a really good zombie mode too and tbh imho it was way better than the actual story mode. Idk why but I spent so much time on it.
Resident Evil Requiem
Capcom unveiled Resident Evil Requiem, celebrating 30 years of survival horror with a cinematic trailer starring FBI agent Grace Ashcroft. Launch is scheduled for February 27, 2026. 30 years is fucking insane. I am a huge fan of the series and I really loved most of the games; especially 7, Village (8) and the 2 new remakes. Every time I write a review I just wanna go back to the older versions of the games I write about OR just a random game that pops up in my brain. Wtf lol
Black Myth Zhong Kui
Game Science closed the show with a mythic teaser for Black Myth Zhong Kui, the sequel to Black Myth Wukong. Expect deep lore and ferocious combat set in demon-infused mythology. The Black Myth games are turning out to be so so damn good, it’s like a 4 course gourmet meal at a French restaurant. Actually fuck the French. Literally any other cuisine/country. Doesn’t help my case that I’m in France rn loool. And I also just got texted by a French “person” I asked for sth after 3 weeks with a dry ass “sorry! I forgot to text back” BRUH??? Just block and waterboard me at this point fr FUCK I keep getting sidetracked…
LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight
TT Games debuted a new open-world LEGO Batman marquee for 2026. Gotham City fused with Arkham-style combat underpins this release, offering split-screen co-op and characters like Bane, Poison Ivy, and Catwoman. Not only does it look cute but it’s also badass haha. I mean your fav heroes and villains as Lego characters is always a fun lil thing.
Hollow Knight Silksong Demo
Team Cherry brought a playable demo of Silksong to Gamescom. Attendees can try it out on the show floor through August 24.
World of Warcraft Midnight
Blizzard teased WoW Midnight, featuring new zones such as Quel’Thalas, player housing, cinematic storytelling, and the expected warmth among die-hard Warcraft fans.
Other Highlights
Titles like Lords of the Fallen 2, Silent Hill, The Outer Worlds 2, Ninja Gaiden 4, and a PS5 version of Age of Empires IV DLC were spotlighted. Additionally, indie titles like Death by Scrolling and Heat by Wargaming made valiant appearances.
